The Maritim Hotel in Lübeck 's Travemünde district is a building complex with the larger of two skyscrapers in the health resort . It was built by Hochtief in the early 1970s and completed in 1974, is 119 m high ( 125 m with the radio masts installed on the roof ), has 36 floors, and at that time it had livened up the tourist area. In 2019 it was placed under monument protection. The second high-rise is on the corner of Nordlandring and Schwedenstrasse.

The Maritim Hotel houses next to the four-star - hotel (floors 4 to 13) and 320 apartments (floors 14 to 34), Warehouses (shops), restaurants , a parking garage and an indoor pool . The highest restaurant is on the 35th floor and offers a wide view of the Priwall with the four-masted bark Passat , Northwest Mecklenburg , the Trave with the Skandinavienkai to Lübeck and far over the Lübeck Bay of the Baltic Sea with the coast of East Holstein .
The large area of the stems u. a. with the swimming pool, which formed the part of the basement southeast of the high-rise building, was demolished in the early 2010s and replaced by a green area, which initially became the property of the City of Lübeck. In the summer of 2018, a new hotel and apartment building were completed on this area.
Use as a lighthouse
In the top floor of the building is the highest beacon in Europe at 117 m . It replaces the beacon on the oldest lighthouse building in Germany, the old Travemünde lighthouse . The range of the red and white flashing fire with a return of four seconds is 15 (red) or 19 (white) nautical miles in the northeast sector , i.e. up to the height of the next but one lighthouse Dahmeshöved on the Wagrien coast behind Grömitz .
Monument protection
In 2019, the Hanseatic City of Lübeck placed the high-rise under monument protection. This was justified with its special urban development value as a striking high-rise. The 1970s style interior also played a role in the decision. The building is also a real and symbolic beacon of the free West.
