List of high-rise buildings in Germany
This list shows the 100 tallest skyscrapers in Germany with their structural minimum height. Only high-rise buildings are listed, not transmission masts, television or telecommunications towers, church towers, chimneys or similar structures . For these structures see the list of the tallest structures in Germany .
The first high-rise buildings in Germany were built at the beginning of the 20th century, see the list of historic high-rise buildings in Germany . By far the tallest and most high-rise buildings in the republic are in Frankfurt am Main , where 36 have a structural height of at least 100 meters. This is followed by Berlin with 11, Cologne with 10, Munich with 6, Mannheim with 4 and Hamburg and Düsseldorf with 3 high-rise buildings above the 100 meter mark.
High-rise buildings from a height of 150 meters are generally considered to be skyscrapers . From a structural height of 300 meters uses Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat the term " Supertall " (English super high ), a skyscraper of this height there are not yet in Germany; in Frankfurt, however, the Millennium Tower project with a height of around 360 meters is planned. There are a total of 18 skyscrapers (over 150 meters high) throughout Germany, 17 of them in Frankfurt am Main and one in Bonn (as of August 2020).
Because numerous, especially smaller, German cities have a historical silhouette of church towers , city towers and domes , the construction of high-rise buildings in or near the old city center is usually undesirable and politically incapable of majority because the cityscape would be severely impaired. From the middle of the 20th century onwards , a significant skyline of skyscrapers has only been able to develop in Frankfurt am Main - due to the economic importance of the city and the political will (see high-rise master plan ) . This makes the city today - alongside London , Paris , Moscow and Warsaw - one of the leading skyscraper metropolises in Europe in terms of the density, height and architecture of the buildings.
However, there are also larger high-rise ensembles. E.g. at Potsdamer Platz , Alexanderplatz and City West in Berlin, in the southern district of Essen , in the center of Düsseldorf ( high-rise list ), in Leipzig ( high-rise list ), in Dortmund ( high-rise list ), at the Berliner Tor and at the Landungsbrücken in Hamburg. In addition, several city centers are dominated by eye-catching high-rise buildings, such as those in Bremerhaven ( Atlantic Hotel ), Frankfurt / Oder ( Oderturm ), Jena ( Jentower ), Neubrandenburg ( HKB Tower ), Offenbach ( City Tower ), Travemünde ( Maritim Hotel ) and Rostock -Warnemünde ( Hotel Neptun ).
List of high-rise buildings in Germany
The elevation data come from the databases of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (Council for tall buildings and urban habitat) and Emporis . All high-rise buildings are ranked according to structural height . This includes spiers if they are part of the building architecture, but no radio antennas or similar technical structures.
