The Radisson Hospitality AB (previously Rezidor Hotel Group) is a large internationally active hotel chain with headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. It was created in March 2018.

history

In 1994 the company was founded under the name SAS International Hotels . It had 29 houses in Europe that were brought into the company by the parent company SAS .

SAS International Hotels closed the business year 2000 with a turnover of 371 million euros in 146 hotels, owned or leased. A profit of 68 million euros was achieved. On November 1, 2000, the Malmaison brand with five hotels in Great Britain was taken over.

SAS International Hotels, renamed Rezidor SAS Hospitality on October 1, 2001 , operated 160 hotels in 38 countries under the Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts and Malmaison brands. The hotels achieved a turnover of 379 million euros, the profit amounted to 22 million euros. As a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the revenues in the big cities were more affected than in medium- sized cities , hotels with large US customers were particularly hard hit .

The group closed the first complete financial year 2002 under the new name Rezidor SAS Hospitality with an increase in turnover to 390 million euros. The number of hotels operated by the group rose to 184. In addition to its two own brands, the group signed a license agreement with Carlson Hotels Worldwide for the Regent , Country Inn and Park Inn brands, with a term of over thirty years . The two brands Country Inn and Park Inn are in the middle price segment, while the Regent brand stands for upscale hotels.

In August 2003, Rezidor announced to SAS Hospitality that it would take over the hotel brand Golden Arch Hotels , which was introduced by McDonald’s in 2001 in Switzerland . This also meant the complete withdrawal of McDonald's from the hotel market. The two hotels were incorporated into the Park Inn hotel brand. A customer loyalty program was also introduced at Rezidor SAS Hospitality.

The brand portfolio in Europe was adjusted to include the Country Inn brand in 2004. The houses operating under this brand were converted to Park Inn.

In 2005, Rezidor SAS Hospitality and the Carlson Companies announced that the Carlson Companies would acquire a 25 percent stake in the hotel business. In return, the brand licenses were extended until 2052. At the time of the announcement, Rezidor SAS Hospitality had 245 properties in 47 countries. In 2005, the customer loyalty program, at which time over 100,000 customers had a customer card, was revised and introduced under the name goldpoints plus .

After going public in 2006, the Carlson Companies increased their stake to 35 percent. With 279 hotels in 47 countries, mainly in the EMEA economic area , and 21,000 employees, the company was one of the largest hotel chains in 2006.

In March 2016 the Rezidor Hotel Group took over 49% of the economy hotel chain prizeotel founded by the hotelier Marco Nussbaum with a value of 14.7 million euros, thus announcing the entry into the economy segment. After prizeotel terminated the license agreement in April 2019, the prizeotel brand was no longer mentioned on the Radisson channels. In October 2019, however, Radisson announced that it wanted to take over prizeotel completely. The takeover was completed on January 2, 2020.

In February 2018, the group announced the renaming to Radisson Hotel Group in its external appearance to guests and customers. The customer loyalty program is run under the name Radisson Rewards (formerly Club Carlson ).

At the end of 2018, the Radisson Hotel Group was taken over by the Chinese tourism and hotel group Jin Jiang International .
