High-rise buildings with Kurpfalzbrücke

The Neckaruferbauung Nord , also known as “NUB” for short, is a residential complex in the Mannheim district of Neckarstadt-Ost directly on the northern bank of the Neckar between Kurpfalzbrücke and Friedrich-Ebert-Brücke with three high-rise buildings, terraced houses facing the Neckar and various school buildings.

Planning and building history

The plans to redesign the banks of the Neckar began in the 1960s. According to the proposal of the Mannheim architect Karl Schmucker, the Neckar city and the city center should be more closely connected through a modern, urban development with office and residential high-rise buildings in an airy and green environment . Initially, it was planned to build four high-rise buildings, with the tallest tower at the Old Messplatz . However, only three high-rise buildings were built in several phases between 1975 and 1982. The old fire station was therefore not torn down.
