Racism controversy about "They can all sing!"

In 2013 published Marius guys satirical book singing can all! A handbook for negro friends , the cover of which shows a muscular, naked black man, whose loins are only covered with a large red gift bow , sparked a discussion in 2014 when the Department for Equality and Lifestyle Policy of the Student Council of the University of Leipzig awarded the book the negative prize “The Prize ist hotßßß * - or not! ” The "presentation of racist, homo-, trans * and inter * hostile content" was criticized.

In the features of various daily newspapers, the question was raised to what extent a book that satirically exaggerated this area and written by a black man could be racist or whether the awardees could have misunderstood the character of the book. The author, who is depicted on the book cover himself, stated that he wanted to receive the award personally.

The Student Council then reiterated its criticism and made it clear that the price did not refer to Marius Jung or the content of the book, but to the advertised cover with a naked black man who had been degraded to a sexual object and which had a racist motive.
