Marius Sandberg
Marius Diederik Christoph Sandberg (born September 5, 1896 in Padang , Dutch East Indies , † March 19, 1986 ) was a Dutch football player .
The son of a Dutch infantry officer was born in Sumatra ; However, the family moved to the Netherlands before his eleventh birthday, where his mother died in 1907.
In the 1920s, Sandberg played football for HVV Den Haag . In 1926 he was appointed to the national team several times . In the 5-0 win against Switzerland on March 28, the midfielder was still on the bench, but three weeks later, at the age of almost 30, he made his debut in Düsseldorf in the 2-4 defeat against the hosts from the German Reich in Orange . Also on May 2, he started against Belgium in Amsterdam ; the Elftal lost 1: 5. He was allowed to travel with the team again, to the following match in Copenhagen against Denmark , but had to sit on the bench again. He did not receive any further invitations from the KNVB selection committee .
