Mark Hambourg

Mark Hambourg ( Russian Марк Михайлович Хамбург / Mark Mikhailovich Hamburg ; born May 31 . Jul / 12. June  1879 greg. In boguchar ( Russia ); † 26. August 1960 in Cambridge ( England )) was a Russian-British pianist .

Life

Mark Hambourg was the son of Michail Hambourg (1855-1916). In 1888 he began performing publicly in Moscow and very soon had performances in all major European cities. He received his basic piano training in Vienna from Theodor Leschetizky . He had lived in London since 1889 and became a British citizen in 1896 . In 1908 he played the world premiere of the Busoni piano concerto dedicated to him.

Mark Hambourg was the brother of Boris , Jan and Clement Hambourg and the father of the pianist Michal Hambourg , with whom he had joint appearances.
