Mark Hammergren

Mark Hammergren (* 1964 ) is an American astronomer and asteroid explorer.

He works at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago in the US state of Illinois and routes currently a research project that the chemical composition of asteroids studied. He is also director of the astro-science workshop. His main interests are asteroids, meteorites , impacts and subsequent mass extinctions , as well as the history and sociology of the UFO phenomenon.

On July 25, 1993 he discovered the asteroids (14466) Hodge and (43844) Rowling at the Manastash Ridge Observatory of the University of Washington .

The asteroid (7917) Hammergren was named after him on May 6, 2012.
