Mark Kerr (wrestler)
Mark Kerr (born December 21, 1968 in Toledo , Ohio ) is an American wrestler and mixed martial arts fighter .
Career
Mark Kerr started wrestling in high school when he was 15. During his high school years, he was twice named Ohio Junior Free Style Champion. He was also a member of the wrestling club Toledo Waits and later the Foxcatcher Wrestling Club . He was trained by Ed Carlin.
After high school, he attended Syracuse University and became the 1992 American Student Champion (NCAA Champion) in free style light heavyweight. In 1994 he was also the American heavyweight freestyle wrestling champion. At the international wrestling mat the greatest successes of Mark Kerr were his second place finish at the Goodwill Games in 1994 in the heavyweight behind David Musuľbes from Russia and before Oleksiy Netschypurenko from the Ukraine and the 2nd place at the Pan American Games in 1995 in Mar del Plata in Heavyweight behind Wilfredo Morales Suárez from Cuba and in front of Gavin Carrow from Canada .
In 1994 he also took part in the World Cup in Istanbul . He only came in 11th place in the heavyweight division.
In 1996, Mark Kerr tried to qualify for the Atlanta Olympics. He failed in the US Olympic Trials but to Kurt Angle , who became Olympic champion in 1996 .
In 1997 Mark Kerr joined the mixed martial arts camp.
In 2002 he starred in John Hyams' sports documentary The Smashing Machine . He embodies himself in the film.
