John Hyams

John Hyams (born March 16, 1969 ) is an American film director and film editor .

Life

John Hyams' father is film director and cinematographer Peter Hyams . John Hyams graduated from the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University . In 1992 he was involved as a director on the documentary television series America Undercover .

Five years later, Hyams made his first documentary, One Dog Day . Another five years later followed his second documentary, The Smashing Machine , for which he also appeared for the first time as editor. From 2003 to 2005 he directed several episodes of the New York Cops series - NYPD Blue .

After various other productions, Universal Soldier: Regeneration was his first action film, a continuation of the Universal Soldier film series. Jean-Claude Van Damme took on the leading role . His father was involved in this production as a cameraman. In 2012, Hyams shot the action film Dragon Eyes , again with van Damme in the lead role. With Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning 2012 their third film together was born. In 2013, Hyams was involved as an editor on the film Enemies Closer , which in turn was directed by his father. Jean-Claude Van Damme took on a leading role.

Since 2014, Hyams has co-produced and directed several episodes of the Z Nation series . As a screenwriter he was involved in Skin Trade (2014). Since then he has mainly worked as a television director. With Black Summer he developed a prequel series for Z Nation , which was released on Netflix in mid-April 2019 .
