Universal Soldier: Regeneration is the fifth film in the Universal Soldier film series from 2009 . Directed by John Hyams , the screenplay is by Victor Ostrovsky . Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren can be seen again in their roles from the original 1992 film.
In terms of content, the film has no relation to the two television sequels Universal Soldier 2 - Brothers Under Arms and Universal Soldier 3 - Bloody Business from 1998. But the events of the second part are also ignored. The film is a direct-to-DVD production . In 2012, the sequel Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning was released , again directed by John Hyams.
action
Terrorists used stolen technology to create a next generation Universal Soldier. With this “UniSol” they are on their way to the contaminated Chernobyl and threaten to release a deadly radioactive cloud. The only one who can stop them is Luc Deveraux, a UniSol that has been out of service for years. No sooner has he been reactivated than Deveraux has to launch an attack on the heavily armed terrorist fortress. But in the fortress he will discover not one, but two of these almost indestructible opponents: Andrew Scott, Deveraux's malicious enemy from the original Universal Soldier, has been secretly cloned and improved.
criticism
"Ultimately, only the storyline with Deveraux's therapist [...] who is unmotivated and does nothing is really disturbing, as well as the unexploited and therefore superfluous Frankenstein motif in the relationship between the 'Mad Scientist' and his 'creations'. But for free! The main thing is that it crashes and the action looks snappy. The old Krawumm heroes are a few wrinkles richer and their shoulders are a little lower, but it's still enough for a few separatist Eastern Bloc terrorists. And with Andrei Arlovski and Mike Pyle, who sometimes even lets something like screen presence shine through, there are potent successors ready. If you can't get anything out of all this, you should understand 'Universal Soldier Regeneration' simply as a contribution to the never-ending discussion of whether zombies (the bottom line is that the UniSols are nothing but the undead) can run or not. Like its predecessors, the film gives a clear answer: Not only can you run damn fast, you can also hit damn hard. "
“Hyams' Universal Soldier: Regeneration is not only a furious action film, but it uses the brute power of this genre for a particularly impressive meditation on the essence of humans, the value of free will and, above all, the unstoppable power of life itself. His hero is not a human, but a machine. "
