Mark Joseph Renaud (born February 21, 1959 in Windsor , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player (defender) who played for the Hartford Whalers and Buffalo Sabers in the National Hockey League from 1979 to 1984 . His brother Chris Renaud was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

After a junior career with the Windsor Spitfires and the Niagara Falls Flyers , he was selected by the Hartford Whalers as 102nd in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft .

For the 1979/80 season he was in the squad of the Whalers and came to some missions in the NHL. Mostly he played in the AHL farm team with the Springfield Indians . After another two years he commuted between Hartford and the Binghamton Whalers , he played the 1982/83 season completely in the NHL. With a plus / minus statistic of -42, however, he had to deal with the criticism that was made of the weak Whalers defense.

For the 1983/84 season , the Buffalo Sabers got him in the waiver draft. In addition to ten games for the Sabers, he was used in his two years with the organization at the Rochester Americans .

His son Mickey Renaud was also a hockey player. He played for the Windsor Spitfires and was on the way to the NHL. In the 2007 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Calgary Flames in the fifth round. He died unexpectedly on February 18, 2008 at the age of 19.
