Mark Senior
Mark Senior (* 1862 in Hanging Heaton in Dewsbury , † 1. January 1927 in Runswick Bay) was a British painter of the Post-Impressionism .
Mark Sr. attended George Pyrah's school in Batley .
Senior studied painting at the Wakefield School of Art since 1880 and continued his studies in portrait painting with Isaac Faulkner Bird in Leeds . He then studied at London's Slade School of Fine Art with Alphonse Legros , where he met famous artists including James McNeill Whistler , Henry Tonks and Fred Brown. His pictures were exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts from 1892–1924.
Since his marriage to Alice Brook in 1886, he moved to Ossett , his wife's hometown.
Senior was a member of the artist group founded in the early 1890s from the fishing village of Staithes on the north-east coast of Yorkshire .
In the last years of life, Senior spent the summer season in a fishing hut in Runswick Bay. The inhabitants of the village were happy to model him.
