BrandA coccinea is a plant type from the genus BrandA within the family of the nightshade family . The epiphytic to semi- epiphytic growing plant occurs in parts of South America .

Markea coccinea is a shrub or a climbing plant that grows epiphytic to semi- epiphytic and has hairless branches. The leaves are alternate and usually not tufted at the ends of the branches . The leaf blade is elliptical to inversely lanceolate, 13.0 to 19.0 inches long and 4.5 to 6.0 inches wide and hairless. They are pointed towards the front, pointed to blunt at the base. The petiole is 0.5 to 1.5 inches long.

The inflorescences are in the armpits on 15 to 30 centimeter long peduncle , at the ends of which the flowers are on 1.8 to 2.5 centimeter long pedicels . The calyx is 2.2 to 3.2 centimeters long, is angled at the base and has long-lanceolate to long-pointed calyx teeth 4 millimeters long. The crown is orange to red in color and funnel-shaped. The rounded corolla lobes, which are up to 6 millimeters long, are attached to a corolla tube about 45 millimeters long and 3 millimeters wide.

The fruit is an oval-cylindrical berry with a diameter of 5 millimeters and a length of 14 millimeters. It contains numerous, small seeds .

Occurrence

The range of the species is in Guyana , Suriname , French Guiana and Brazil .

Markea coccinea was first described by Louis Claude Marie Richard in 1792 . It is the type species of the genus Markea .
