Market Drayton is a minority town in northern Shropshire in England, near the Welsh border. It is on the River Tern , between Shrewsbury and Stoke-on-Trent . Until 1868 the town was known as " Drayton in Hales ", before that (around 1695) also simply as " Drayton ". Joule's Brewery is located in the village and belonged to James Prescott Joule and his family until 1854 .
Three miles southwest of Market Drayton is the RAF Ternhill military airfield .
