Margravial palace
The Margravial Palace , officially the “Margravial Hochbergsches Palais” , is a building on Rondellplatz in Karlsruhe .
history
The Margravial Palace at Karl-Friedrich-Straße 23 is a building based on a design by the architect Friedrich Weinbrenner and was built between 1803 and 1814. The then Grand Duke Karl Friedrich had the building built for the sons of his second wife, Countess Luise Karoline von Hochberg . At the rear of the palace there was a pleasure garden with an architecture reminiscent of Andrea Palladio . This building was demolished in 1902.
In front of the palace stands the constitutional column that was erected in 1823/24 and was designed by Friederich Weinbrenners. The structure stands on the central axis called Via Triumphalis , which extends from Karlsruhe Palace to Ettlinger Tor .
During the Second World War, the building was largely destroyed by air raids in 1942. In 1960 the remains were demolished, but in 1963 it was restored using part of the classical facade.
Today the building is used by the Karlsruhe BBBank eG .
