Marko Bošnjak

Marko Bošnjak (born March 12, 1974 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian lawyer , university professor and judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Live and act

Bošnjak studied law at the University of Ljubljana from 1992 until his diploma in 1996 and then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Forensic Science there. In 1999 he obtained his master’s degree. After completing his preparatory service at the Ljubljana Court of Appeal, Bošnjak passed his state examination in 2001. In 2002 he was awarded a PhD from the University of Ljubljana. iur. PhD. Subsequently he worked as an independent advisor until 2006, later as chief advisor for the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia . In 2005 he became an assistant professor of criminal law and criminology at the University of Ljubljana, and in 2006 he was also a lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences there. Since 2012 he has been a full professor of criminal law at the University of Nova Gorica and head of the criminal law department at the Faculty of Humanities. From 2009 to 2016 he also worked as a criminal law attorney.

In April 2016 Bošnjak was elected to succeed Boštjan Zupančič as the representative of Slovenia as judge at the European Court of Human Rights . He began his term of office, which is expected to last until 2025, on May 30, 2016.
