Markt is a church village and part of the market Biberbach in the Swabian district of Augsburg in Bavaria ( Germany ).

history

The villages of Markt and Biberbach were owned by the Marshals von Pappenheim in the Middle Ages . They are mentioned in a land register as early as 1214 . One descendant sold the entire Biberbach estate on June 16, 1514 for 32,000 guilders to Jakob Fugger , who had the castle complex expanded from Markt to Schloss. The age-old market rights of today's Markt district were apparently later transferred to the 3 km south pilgrimage site , today's Markt Biberbach.

Until the regional reform in Bavaria on July 1, 1972, the independent municipality of Markt with its district, the lonely Ehekirchmühle, belonged to the district of Wertingen and was then added to the district of Augsburg (initially called the district of Augsburg-West ). On May 1, 1978, Markt was incorporated into Markt Biberbach.

Markt and Ehekirchmühle belong to the Catholic parish Sankt Jakobus major in Biberbach .

Castle market

Markt Castle is located above the village . The spur castle probably dates from the 14th century and was rebuilt in 1525 after it was acquired by Jakob Fugger in 1508. The preserved of them keep the brick walls and the Onoldsbacher tower. The Catholic Palace Chapel of St. John the Baptist is located in the courtyard . It was built in 1738/39 in the Baroque style by Simon Rothmiller.
