history

To market classified ads, the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group (through the ProServ holding company ), the Ippen Mediengruppe and the then WAZ Mediengruppe (now Funke Mediengruppe ) founded the joint venture ISA GmbH & Co. KG each with a third share . In September 2005 this company started the online classified ad service Markt.de. In 2008 the parent company was renamed Markt Gruppe GmbH & Co. KG .

The holding company ProServ - Medien Service Gesellschaft mbH was founded in 2001 as part of the Holtzbrinck Group in Munich. Half of it was directly owned by the Holtzbrinck publishing group, and one-sixth of the stake was held by the Saarbrücker Zeitung Verlag und Druckerei , which is majority owned by Holtzbrinck, and its wholly-owned subsidiary Trierischer Volksfreund and Lausitzer Rundschau . In 2012, the Holtzbrinck Group gave up the regional newspaper business and sold its stake in the Saarbrücken publishing group to the co-owner Gesellschaft für Staatsbürgerliche Bildung Saar mbH (GSB) . In 2013, it sold 56 percent of the ownership to the Rheinische Post Mediengruppe as the new parent company. 28 percent of the Saarbrücken publishing group remained in the possession of GSB, 16 percent belong to an employee holding company. Immediately afterwards, the Holtzbrinck Group also sold its direct ownership share in ProServ to the Rheinische Post. Shortly afterwards, ProServ moved to the Rheinische Post headquarters in Düsseldorf and is headed by the CEO of the Rheinische Post Mediengruppe. Therefore, Rheinische Post is not the sole owner of the holding company, but has sole entrepreneurial management.

In 2014, the Funke Mediengruppe sold its share of ownership in equal shares to the two co-shareholders. Since then, ProServ and the Ippen media group have each held half of the ownership shares in the Markt Group.
