Markus Boyer (born April 14, 1947 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss architect .

Life

Markus Boyer is the son of the architect August Boyer . After studying architecture at the ETH Zurich (diploma 1972) and internships at USM Schärer Söhne (building systems) in Münsigen and with the architects Maurice and Parmelin in Geneva , he started his first job as an architect in the Hafner und Wiederkehr office in Zug . This was followed by a stay in England and employment at the Harlow Development Corporation , the urban planning office of New Town Harlow ( Essex ).

In 1975 he joined his father's architecture office in Lucerne, in 1978 he took over the office and continued to run it for 35 years. In 2013 he converted the office into Boyer + Camenzind AG and ran it together with his successor Samuel Camenzind for the next six years. In 2020 he withdrew from the AG and since then has limited his activity to special tasks, as well as consulting and voluntary activities.

As an architect, he created numerous private and public buildings in all areas of architecture, mainly in the Lucerne and Central Switzerland area . Buildings for industry were an important area in which he strived to transform heterogeneous spatial programs and complex operational processes into simple, clear architecture. Another specialty were buildings with unusual tasks, e.g. B. the buildings for the aerospace industry Ariane .

The subject of “Art and Construction”, the combination of architecture and fine arts , was always an important issue for him . In his own buildings, he ensured this collaboration with artists and the integration of art whenever possible. In addition, he was also involved in various architects and artists' committees for the promotion of art and construction projects .
