Markus Ewald (born June 20, 1964 in Villingen ) is a German business economist and local politician. He is Lord Mayor of Weingarten (Württemberg) .

Life

The son of the administrative officer Falko Ewald - who was building department in Weingarten from 1995 to 2001 - grew up in Bad Urach and studied business administration in Reutlingen and Reims after completing high school and military service . Ewald then worked for the Treuhandanstalt in Berlin, Lufthansa and ABB .

In 2004 he applied - against the re-running incumbent - for the mayor's office of his hometown Bad Urach and was elected mayor for eight years in the first ballot with 56.8% of the votes. He held the office for four years until he was elected as Lord Mayor of Weingarten as the successor to Gerd Gerber, who did not stand again due to old age . In the first ballot, he was able to prevail against candidates from the CDU and SPD with 54.9% of the vote as a non-party applicant. In 2016 he was re-elected for a further eight years with 73.5% of the votes cast.

In 2010, Ewald entered into a registered partnership with his long-term partner .

In a traffic accident on December 14, 2018 on Bundesstraße 30 near Achstetten , Ewald was seriously injured as a passenger in a car. During his stay in a rehabilitation clinic in April 2019, he announced to the public that he was expected to be permanently dependent on a wheelchair. He resumed his work as Lord Mayor in November 2019.
