Markus Fischer (chemist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Markus Jürgen Fischer (born 1965) is a German food chemist who has been a professor at the University of Hamburg since 2006 . His main research interests include the determination of the authenticity of food using molecular biological techniques and mass spectrometry . In the field of biochemistry, he deals with the elucidation of biosynthetic pathways , the development of active ingredients as well as the diagnosis of pathogens and nutritional physiology .

Life

Fischer completed his food chemistry studies at the Technical University of Munich in 1991 . From 1992 he worked at the Institute for Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, where he received his doctorate . Together with Adelbert Bacher, he founded the IKOSATEC Gesellschaft für Protein-Engineering mbH in 2000. In 2003, Markus Fischer completed his habilitation in the field of food chemistry and biochemistry at the Technical University of Munich .

From 2003 to 2006 he was senior assistant in the field of biochemistry at the Technical University of Munich. From 2002 to 2006 Fischer was a visiting professor at the German Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) in Singapore . During this time he also received a call to a C3 professorship at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt. Since 2006, Fischer has been director of the Institute for Food Chemistry, University of Hamburg , where he is still active today. In 2011 he founded the Hamburg School of Food Science (HSFS) within the University of Hamburg .

He is actively committed to the next generation of scientists and is a member of the board of the Food Chemical Society (LChG), where he works for the University Teaching Group . To his students the very nationally-oriented profession food chemist a stay abroad to allow, he is in close contact with the American FDA . He is the holder of patents for biosynthetic pathways that can be used in the field of pesticide and drug development. A large part of his applied research is funded by the Research Group of the Nutrition Industry eV in cooperation with the AiF (BMWI) and the BMEL.

Since 2016 he has been the spokesperson for the Competence Network Food Profiling (CNFP). He has been Vice President of the International Association of Environmental Analytical Chemistry (IAEAC) since 2019 . Since 2019, Markus Fischer has been the spokesman for the natural science part (Artefact Profiling) of the Cluster of Excellence "Understanding Written Artefacts" at the University of Hamburg.

Awards

In 2004 he received the Kurt Täufel Prize of the Young Scientist of the LChG .

In 2014 he was part of a research consortium led by Prof. Dr. Thomas Kurz (Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf), who was awarded the Phoenix Pharmazie Science Prize 2014 in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry.
