Markus Jäger (lawyer)

Markus Jäger (born February 9, 1966 in Nuremberg ) is a German lawyer and a judge at the Federal Court of Justice since 2006 .

Life

After completing his legal training, he joined the higher judicial service of the Free State of Bavaria in 1995 and worked at the Hof Regional Court and the Hof Public Prosecutor's Office. From 1999 to 2002 he was seconded to the Federal Court of Justice as a research assistant. In 2000 he received his doctorate in law at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg with the dissertation "The Public Prosecutor's Special Department 'Violence against Women': Experiences from criminal proceedings for sexual-related violent crime against women; an empirical study at the Nuremberg-Fürth Public Prosecutor's Office" . In January 2003 he took over the management of the department for substantive criminal law, juvenile criminal law, and the execution of sentences and measures in the Saxon State Ministry of Justice . The following year he was promoted from government director to ministerial councilor.

At the beginning of 2005 he went to the Federal Prosecutor General at the Federal Court of Justice and initially worked as a research assistant in the department for revision criminal matters in the Leipzig office , which is affiliated with the 5th Criminal Senate of the Federal Court of Justice . In April 2006 he was appointed public prosecutor at the Federal Court of Justice. Just one month later, Jäger was elected judge at the Federal Court of Justice and in August 2006 assigned to the 5th criminal division. On August 1, 2008, he moved to the 1st criminal senate . He is also a member of the Senate for tax consultant and tax agent matters and the Senate for auditing matters.

Jäger has distinguished himself through numerous publications, especially in the area of criminal tax law . Together with his fellow judge Jürgen-Peter Graf and the criminal law professor Petra Wittig , he published a commentary on commercial and tax criminal law for the publishing house CH Beck in 2011 . He is also co-editor of the New Journal for Criminal Law and the Journal for Commercial and Tax Criminal Law . Furthermore, he was appointed honorary professor by the TU Dresden .
