Markus Kottmann is a former Swiss skeleton athlete .

Markus Kottmann was part of the Swiss national skeleton squad in the late 1980s. In November 1988 he made his debut in the Skeleton World Cup and was ninth in Calgary . The highlight of the season was the Skeleton World Championship in 1989 on Kottmann's home track in St. Moritz , which did not go well for the Swiss, however, as he was disqualified. He achieved his greatest success in January 1990 when he finished third in a World Cup race behind Urs Vescoli and Christian Auer in Calgary . After the season Kottmann ended his career after which he was a coach. Among other things, he coached the Swiss national team at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , where Maya Pedersen-Bieri won gold and Gregor Stähli won bronze on the Cesana Pariol track .
