Markus Pinezich

Markus Pinezich (born August 24, 1988 ) is an Austrian basketball player and coach .

career

Pinezich, son of basketball trainer Christoph Pinezich , was an Austrian junior national player and as a development player part of the Mattersburg 49ers (2004 to 2007), then the Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions (2008 to 2010), in the 2010/11 season he played at BSC Raiffeisen Fürstenfeld . In 2011 he was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease and had to have his spleen removed. Pinezich managed to return, from December 2012 he played for the Bundesliga club St. Pölten. In the course of the 2013/14 playing year he moved back to Traiskirchen. In March 2014, he suffered septic shock , was in an artificial coma and, after an eight-week hospital stay, had to undergo a rehabilitation course to learn to walk again.

Pinezich had to set his playing career and became a coach. From 2015 to 2019 he was assistant trainer and youth trainer at Swans Gmunden . In the run-up to the 2019/20 season, Pinezich, who worked full-time as a primary school teacher , switched to the Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions and coached the club's U19 team. In mid-December 2019, he was promoted to the position of head coach of the Traiskirchen Bundesliga team.
