Markus Reich (pedagogue)

Markus Reich (born April 15, 1844 in Kolín , † May 23, 1911 in Berlin ) was a German Jewish educator.

Markus Reich founded the Israelitic Deaf-Mute Institute for Germany in Fürstenwalde / Spree in 1873 . The association was supported by the Friends of the Deaf and Mute (Jedide Ilmin). Until 1943, the institution at Parkstrasse 22 in Berlin-Weißensee looked after around 50 children and young people. His sister Anna Reich (1852–1911) looked after the girls' department of the institution. His son Felix Reich (1885–1964) was head of the institution for the deaf and dumb from 1919.

His grave of honor is in the Jewish cemetery in Berlin-Weißensee . In 1995 the forecourt at the main entrance of the Weissensee Jewish Cemetery was named Markus Reich-Platz after him.
