Markus Rex
Markus Rex is a German polar researcher , climate researcher and physicist who is responsible for researching the climate system of the polar regions and the ozone layer . He is a professor at the University of Potsdam and heads the Atmospheric Physics Section of the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI).
Career
After he had passed the Abitur at the Raabeschule in Braunschweig in 1986 , Rex studied physics, geophysics and meteorology at the Technical University of Braunschweig . He moved to Göttingen and wrote his diploma thesis in 1992 using data from a research project in the Arctic . He is researching the polar ozone hole .
Research and Teaching
Rex deals with the effect of climatic physical processes in the polar regions in the context of earth system research , collects climatic data in the polar regions that are strongly affected by climate change and, with the help of this data, calculates worldwide climate models that allow predictions about global climate changes.
Since autumn 2019 he has headed the international research project MOSAiC - Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate , which is researching the effects of climate change in a year-round expedition in the Arctic.
