The Marble Nightjar ( Caprimulgus inornatus ) is a species of bird in the nightjar family (Caprimulgidae).

It occurs in a wide strip of Africa from Mauritania and Senegal to Eritrea , Somalia , Kenya , Saudi Arabia and Yemen .

Their distribution area mainly includes tree- or bush-lined savannas , steppes , semi-deserts , also grasslands up to 1800 m.

description

The marble nightjar is 22–23 cm tall, the male weighs between 33 and 61 g, the female between 32 and 57 g.

This nightjar is monochrome dark with variations from gray-brown, brown to red-brown. The male has white dots on the four wings of the hand , large white corners on the outer control feathers, and no white on the throat. The female lacks the white, but it can have yellow-brown spots on the wings.

The call of the male is described as a drawn out, even whirring noise.

Way of life

The diet consists of moths , termites , ants , grasshoppers , ant maids , fishing horrors and beetles .

The breeding season is between April and June in Mali, between May and June in Niger, between March and June in Ethiopia and between December and June in Somalia.

Hazardous situation

The marble night swallow is not considered to be endangered ( least concern ).
