Maruf Suleiman al-Bachit ( Arabic معروف سليمان البخيت, DMG Maʿrūf Sulaimān al-Baḫīt , sometimes also written Marouf Sulayman al-Bakhit and al-Bakheet ; * 1947 in Mahis ) was Prime Minister of Jordan . As in 2005, he was commissioned by King Abdullah II to form the Jordanian government on February 1, 2011 , and sworn in on February 9.

Life

From 2005 to 2007 he already held the office of Prime Minister. Previously he was ambassador to Israel and national security chief. Its main focus is to ensure the security and stability of Jordan. His first term was appointed less than three weeks after the Amman bombing in 2005.

Maruf al-Bachit comes from the al-Abadi tribe, the second largest in Jordan. In 1964 he joined the army . In 1966 he graduated from the Royal Military College as a second lieutenant. In 1999 he resigned as major general from the army. He held several leadership positions in the army. He represented Jordan at disarmament talks in Madrid.

He also held leading positions during the peace process from 1999 to 2002. Then he was ambassador to Turkey until 2005 , then to Israel . He holds degrees from the University of Jordan , the University of Southern California and King's College London .

On October 24, 2011 al-Bachit was replaced by Aun Schaukat al-Chasauneh as head of government.
