Marquess of Waterford is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland . It is the oldest still existing and therefore highest-ranking Irish marquess title.

The title was created on August 19, 1789 for George de la Poer Beresford, 2nd Earl of Tyrone .

In 1763 he had the titles of 2nd Earl of Tyrone (created 1746), 2nd Viscount Tyrone (created 1720), 2nd Baron Beresford , of Beresford in the County of Cavan (created 1720), and 5th Baronet , of Coleraine in the County of Londonderry , (created 1665, Baronetage of Ireland), inherited. He had also inherited the title of Baron Le Poer from his mother in 1769 , which had been confirmed as Barony by writ in 1767 . On August 21, 1786 he was also raised to Baron Tyrone , of Haverfordwest in the County of Pembroke . The latter title belonged, unlike the aforementioned titles in the Peerage of Ireland, to the Peerage of Great Britain and was linked to a hereditary seat in the House of Lords until 1999 . The titles have been listed as a subordinate title to the Marquess since 1789. The Heir Apparent des Marquess bears the courtesy title Earl of Tyrone , whose Heir Apparent bears the courtesy title Lord Le Poer .

The family home is Curraghmore House , near Portlaw in County Waterford , Ireland.
