history

In 1966 the first Austrian subsidiary of the Mars Group was founded in Vienna . Due to the demand, they wanted to set up production facilities in Germany. Therefore, in 1973 the factory of the Rondo-Neisse company in Breitenbrunn on Lake Neusiedl was bought. After the factory was expanded, the company's headquarters were relocated to Breitenbrunn. The reason for buying this factory was the existing technology for the production of rolled wafers. Today the Breitenbrunn waffle factory has an important status worldwide, since over 90 percent of the products developed there are exported. Main products are Amicelli , Milky Way Crispy Rolls and the Galaxy Flutes made for export . The export markets for these wafers are in Europe , Egypt and Asia .

The animal food factory in Bruck an der Leitha was opened in 1985. With Austria joining the EU and the opening of the borders, sales expanded to the neighboring countries. 70 percent of the goods are exported to Europe, the Mediterranean region , Japan and Argentina .

Wet food for dogs and cats is produced in cans, bowls and, since 2003, also in fresh bags. The product range in Bruck includes Royal Canin Veterinary Diets , Chappi , Cesar , Pedigree , Sheba , Whiskas (including Whiskas Bio) and Kitekat .

In 2013, a new production facility for pet food in fresh bags was put into operation in Bruck. The investment of 33 million euros was the largest in the history of Mars Austria. In 2014, a further expansion of the Brucker production for 20 million euros began.

The Brucker Heimtiernahrungsfabrik was initially run as a separate company under the name Effem Austria. In 1992 the Bruck location was merged with the Breitenbrunn sweets factory under Master Foods Austria Ges.mbH. In 2001 the name was changed to Masterfoods Austria OHG. Due to a worldwide standardization of the names of the subsidiaries of Mars, Inc., the Austrian subsidiary has been called Mars Austria OG since June 2007.

In 2015, domestic sales were bundled in a new Vienna office.

In autumn 2019 it was announced that the plant in Breitenbrunn with around 110 employees was to be closed gradually by the end of 2020 due to the decline in sales of products from the rolled wafer production located there. However, on May 26, 2020 it was announced that the plant would be sold to the German chocolate manufacturer Alfred Ritter GmbH & Co. KG .
