Martín Castañeda (born July 15, 1963 in Fresnillo , Zacatecas ) is a retired Mexican football player , who mainly played in midfield .

career

Castañeda began his professional career in 1983 at Atlas Guadalajara , for which he was first used in the Primera División in an away game played on March 3, 1984 at CF Oaxtepec , which ended 2-2. He scored his first goal in the top Mexican division on October 21, 1984 in a home game against the same opponent. His goal to make it 2-1 in the 29th minute was an important cornerstone of the Rojinegros' later 3-1 victory . His personally most successful season was the 1987/88 season, in which he scored twelve goals; including three hits in a game played on April 30, 1988 at Club Necaxa , which was won 5-2.

His only use for the Mexican national team played Castañeda on August 10, 1989 in an international match against South Korea, which was won 4-2.

In 1990 Castañeda moved to the UANL Tigres and a year later to Club León , with whom he won the championship title in the 1991/92 season. After this triumph he returned to the Tigres. In his last season in 1995/96, he once again experienced all the ups and downs that football has to offer: first he won the Mexican cup competition with the Tigres in March 1996 (and in the final against his former club Atlas) , by only a few Weeks later to relegate the team to the second division .
