Martín Ibarreche Vázquez (born November 11, 1943 in Torreón , Coahuila ) is a retired Mexican football player on the position of defender .

career

Ibarreche began his career as a professional footballer in 1960 with his hometown club Club El Cataluña , which had been accepted into the second division that same year . Due to his good performance, Ibarreche was soon discovered by the capital city club America , which signed him in 1962. In the 1965/66 season he won the Americanistas' first championship title in the Mexican professional league .

At the beginning of 1965, Ibarreche had made the leap into the Mexican national team , for which he completed a total of nine international matches between February 28, 1965 and April 11, 1965. First he played all four preliminary round matches for Mexico as part of the qualification for the 1966 World Cup and won preliminary group 3 with “El Tri”. He then played all five matches of the final round of the 1965 CONCACAF Nations Cup for Mexico , which he won with “El Tri ”won. After that, however, he was never used again for the national team.

In 1969 he moved to Deportivo Toluca and the following year to Puebla FC , where he ended his professional career in 1977. He was then active in the amateur-based capital league Española de Fútbol , where he played for the Centro Vasco team.

Ibarreche later returned to his hometown of Torreón and worked in various functions for the Club Santos Laguna . In the last weeks of 1994 he briefly took over the post of head coach and in 2004 he was elected vice president.
