Martha Dewal

Martha Dewal-Hürlimann (born August 17, 1935 in Uster ) is a Swiss opera singer . She is a specialist in the “intermediate subject” (voice between soprano and mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Martha Dewal studied singing at the State Academy in Vienna with Elsa Schwientek-Würtenberger . Following opera tours through Austria, Holland and Germany as well as permanent engagements as a dramatic mezzo-soprano on the stages of Salzburg and Oldenburg , she became a member of the ensemble at the Ulm Theater in 1974/1975 , where she quickly became a particular audience favorite because of her dramatic expressiveness and her sense of humorous acting. She also celebrated her 25th stage anniversary in the city on the Danube.

In several cities in northern and southern Germany as well as in Switzerland she sang the major roles of her subject such as Küsterin ( Jenufa ), Lady Macbeth ( Macbeth ) and Klytämnestra ( Elektra ).

In 1993 she was awarded the title of chamber singer by the state of Baden-Württemberg . Every now and then the artist, who lives in Ulm- Söflingen and works as a singing teacher, still performs at the Ulm Theater. In the 2007/2008 season, for example, she sang Filipjewna in Eugene Onegin .

Martha Dewal is an honorary member of the foundation board of the «Villa Grunholzer» in Uster / Switzerland.
