Martha Rumbauer

Martha Rumbauer , married Martha von Siegroth (born October 22, 1862 in Medwitz near Belzig , † March 10, 1943 in Berlin ) was a German writer and translator.

Live and act

Rumbauer was the daughter of a teacher. In 1864 she came to Berlin with her family , where she also spent her school days. With the support of her father, she began her first literary attempts at an early age and was able to make her debut successfully around 1880 in the feature pages of various, mostly Berlin, newspapers, such as Deutsches Mondagsblatt or Illustrierte Frauen-Zeitung . Publishers like Franz von Lipperheide and colleagues like Johanna Lankau supported her in this.

From 1882 she went on an extensive study trip to and through Italy . She visited u. a. Venice, Florence, Rome and Naples and reported from these cities in the feature pages of several German newspapers. In 1883 she returned to Berlin and traveled to the USA the following year . In the spring of 1885 she returned to Berlin and settled there as a freelance writer.

In 1889/90 Rumbauer worked in the editorial department of the Berlin Salon and in 1896 again for a few months for the Adels- und Salonblatt .

On April 3, 1911, she married Franz von Siegroth (born March 27, 1838 Breslau, + March 23, 1918 Berlin) a military writer and former officer in Berlin.

She published some of her works under her married name, but continued to publish others under her maiden name.
