Martin Luther Church (Moordorf)
The Evangelical Lutheran Martin Luther Church in Moordorf , a district of the municipality of Südbrookmerland in central East Frisia , was built in the neo-Romanesque style at the end of the 19th century .
history
The Moorkolonie Moordorf came into being as a result of King Friedrich II's reclamation edict , into whose rule East Frisia had passed in 1744. In 1767 the first settlers settled in the place. They were affiliated with the parish Victorbur , which met with considerable opposition there. The inhabitants of Moordorf were considered poor and the Victorbur feared a collapse of the poor fund , so that the complaints about this condition increased.
In 1776 a separate cemetery was created on the grounds of the newly established school in Moordorf. The Moordorf parish remained a branch of the Victorbur parish until the state consistory declared it an independent Evangelical Lutheran parish in 1886 . Thereupon plans began for the construction of a church, which was secured by a generous gift of grace from the emperor in the amount of 18,000 marks. This covered almost half of the construction costs. Local craft businesses then built the church based on a design by the Prussian building department in Berlin. On November 19, 1893, the community finally inaugurated the church. The church initially had no tower, but a roof turret with a bell. The altar is a gift from the Counts von Wedel from Leer .
The new cemetery has been located at the church since 1895. In 1908 the tower was added.
From 1978 to 1980 the interior of the church was completely renovated. The congregation had the ornamentation on the interior walls of the nave and chancel, which had been painted over during previous renovations, as well as the decoration with banners restored in its original shape and color. In addition, the painting of all wooden parts, which had been carried out several times over the decades, has now been darkened considerably, removed and a lighter, warm wood tone obtained. In the course of the renovation, all roofs were re-covered with slate and the windows re-glazed. Only the three colored windows in the choir room have been preserved. A new sacristy room was built on the north side of the choir and the brick floor was replaced by a wooden floor. The interior received three new candlesticks, while the old chandeliers were placed on the organ gallery and in the anteroom. In 2005 it was given the name Martin Luther Church .
The parish has 4,980 members (as of 2011). This means that three quarters of Moordorfer's Protestant-Lutheran denomination. The parish is divided into two parish districts, each with a full pastorate.
organ
The case and two of the seven registers of the organ , which was built in 1895 by Johann Diepenbrock from Norden , are still original. The Alfred Führer company completely renovated the instrument in 1976.
