Martin Burkhardt (politician)

Martin Burkhardt (born February 21, 1898 in Seeligstadt ; † August 30, 1977 ) was a German local politician and homeland researcher .

life and work

The son of a small farmer from Seeligstadt became a member of the USPD in 1917 . In the following year he became a member of the soldiers' council and took part in agitation in the districts of Pirna, Kamenz, Bautzen and in the Saxon state capital of Dresden .

During the Nazi era he was arrested several times. In 1945 he joined the KPD and after the forced unification of the SPD and KPD in 1946 the SED. He was elected mayor of Seeligstadt and was a member of the Pirna District Council until 1953. Then he moved to the district council of Bischofswerda. In 1963 he retired. In 1968 he published his main work on behalf of the Commission for Research into the History of the Labor Movement in the SED, the first part of the multi-volume history of the labor movement in the Bischofswerda district . The second part was not printed, only completed as a manuscript.
