After the European elections, Buschmann joined the group of the United European Left / Nordic Green Left (GUE / NGL) in the European Parliament, which includes the German party Die Linke . For the parliamentary group, Buschmann was a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and the Petitions Committee.

On January 26, 2020, Buschmann's NPD past became known. He then distanced himself in a statement from the goals of the NPD and resigned from the GUE / NGL parliamentary group on January 28, 2020. In a statement dated January 29, 2020, the leadership of his party spoke of a “serious breach of trust” and “massive damage to reputation”. She asked Bushman to resign from his mandate. In that case, Robert Gabel , one of the three leaders of the Animal Welfare Party, who was second on the Animal Welfare Party's list, would have moved up to the European Parliament. Buschmann did not comply with the demand and resigned from the animal protection party in February 2020.
