Martin Cecil, 7th Marquess of Exeter

William Martin Alleyne Cecil, 7th Marquess of Exeter ( April 27, 1909 , † January 12, 1988 ), was an English - Canadian peer , rancher and religious leader.

Origin and family

He was the second and youngest son of William Cecil, 5th Marquess of Exeter , from his marriage to Myra Orde-Powlett. As the younger son of a marquess , he used the courtesy address "Lord" Martin Cecil until 1981 .

On January 17, 1934, his first marriage was the Hungarian Edith Csanady de Telegd († 1954). They had a son, Michael Anthony Cecil (* 1935), who later became the 8th Marquess of Exeter. On September 3, 1945, he married Lillian Johnson for the second time. With her he had two daughters, Lady Marina June Brownlow-Cecil (* 1956) and Janine Dawn Brownlow-Cecil (1958-1958).

Career

He attended the Britannia Royal Naval College , Dartmouth, and then served with the rank of sub-lieutenant in the Royal Navy .

After his military service he became a well-known Canadian cattle breeder, from 1930 on the ranch in 100 Mile House in British Columbia, which his father had taken over .

Peerage

When his older brother David Cecil, 6th Marquess of Exeter , died in 1981 , he inherited his nobility titles as Marquess of Exeter , Earl of Exeter and Baron Burghley . His brother had four daughters, but his only son had died young. A seat in the British House of Lords was associated with the titles of nobility .

When William Martin Alleyne Cecil died on January 12, 1988, his only son Michael inherited his title of nobility.

Emissaries of Divine Light

In 1954, Cecil became the head of the Emissaries of Divine Light Church . He spent several months each year at the international headquarters at Sunrise Ranch, Loveland, Colorado .
