Martin Christian Vogel

Martin Christian Vogel (born February 3, 1951 in Chemnitz ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ), professor of singing , university rector and theologian .

Life

Vogel's musical career began as a member of the Leipzig St. Thomas Choir . After graduating from the Thomas School , he studied Protestant theology at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , which he completed with a diploma. He then studied singing at the Leipzig Music Academy , where he also graduated with a diploma. Vogel became a vocal trainer with the St. Thomas Choir during his studies and was engaged as a lyric tenor and tenor buffo at the Leipzig Opera House .

After ten years, Vogel moved to Berlin in 1989 and got an engagement at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin . Guest performances and concert tours have taken him to numerous countries around the world.

In 1991 Vogel was appointed professor for singing at the Detmold University of Music . From 1997 to 2001 he was dean here , and in 2001 he was elected rector of the university. He held this office until 2014.

From 2000 to 2003 he was President of the Federal Association of German Singing Pedagogues and, at the beginning of the 21st century, Chairman of the “Initiative Detmolder Sommertheater eV” association. Vogel is also a member of the board of the Liz Mohn Culture and Music Foundation and, since November 2015, of the Philharmonic Society for East Westphalia-Lippe.
