Martin Fay

Martin Fay (born September 19, 1936 in Dublin , Ireland , † November 14, 2012 ) was an Irish musician.

As a child he received violin lessons . He played in the Abbey Theater Orchestra at the age of 18 and was discovered by Seán Ó Riada , who brought him into his band “Ceoltóirí Chuallan”. From this band it went seamlessly into the Chieftains , of which he remained a member from 1962 to 2002. In addition to the younger violinist Seán Keane , he was the violinist for the band's quieter pieces. At the age of 66 he left the band and only remained a member of the band in his homeland, travel became too much. He was the only chieftain who never produced a solo work.
