Seán Keane

Seán Keane (born July 12, 1946 in Dublin ) is an Irish violin player .

Live and act

Keane grew up in a typical Dublin family of musicians. Both parents played the violin and he had learned to play the instrument since childhood; at the Dublin School of Music he received classical lessons. Over the years he became more interested in traditional Irish music , including winning the All-Ireland Championship .

At the age of 16, he played with his brother James in the Castle Ceili band, where Seán Ó Riada discovered him, who a year later brought him to his band Ceóltoirí Chuallan .

In 1968 Paddy Moloney invited him to his band The Chieftains , of which he is still a member today. Keane was heard for the first time on the album The Chieftains 2. While the violinist Martin Fay is mainly responsible for the quiet violin passages, Keane prefers to play the faster dance pieces.

During his time with the Chieftains, he released five solo albums and recorded two albums with other musicians.

Seán Keane should not be confused with the Irish singer of the same name, born in 1961.
