Martin Fleig (born October 15, 1989 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German disabled athlete in the field of Nordic skiing .

Life

Fleig was born in Freiburg im Breisgau and grew up there. After graduating from school, he trained as an administrative clerk at the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district office until August 2013, where he now works.

Career

Fleig won the German championships almost continuously between 2009 and 2013.

The participation for Germany in the Winter Paralympics 2014 in Sochi was his first participation in Paralympic Games. He started with a sled called "Snowstorm" developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials together with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and manufactured with a 3D printer . The production and development costs amount to around 160,000 euros .

In the 2016/17 season he won two world championships in Finsterau and was world cup winner.

At the Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang , he won the gold medal in the biathlon over 15 kilometers. Over 12.5 kilometers, he took 4th place. For winning the gold medal, he was awarded the silver laurel leaf on June 7, 2018.
