Martin Grüning (engineer)

Bernhard Martin Grüning (born December 10, 1869 in Schönstedt ; † June 30, 1932 in Hanover ) was a German civil engineer and professor of steel construction .

Grüning was from 1896 on the Berlin ministerial, military and building commission and from 1899 government master builder. In 1918 he became professor for statics of iron construction at the Technical University of Hanover and in 1923 professor for structural engineering at TH Vienna .

In 1929 he received an honorary doctorate from the TH Darmstadt .

Personal and family

Martin Grüning was the eldest son of Benno Grüning, pastor in Klettstedt and Schwerstedt , and his wife Helene Eyle. His younger son Günther Grüning (born November 26, 1904), from his marriage to Emilie von Schütz von Moßbach, later became a professor of statics at the Technical University of Dresden.
