Martin Hägele (journalist)

Martin Hägele (* 1951 in Heilbronn ) is a German sports journalist and Far East football specialist .

Life

Martin Hägele attended the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium Heilbronn . Achim Späth , who later became a football official, was one of his classmates . After graduating from high school there in 1973, he started a traineeship at Heilbronner Voice . He worked as a sports reporter for around 30 years, including for Kicker , the Stuttgarter Zeitung , the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , the Süddeutsche Zeitung and various Japanese sports magazines. From 1985 to 1990 he was head of department at Stern , where he mainly dealt with doping reporting. He ironically referred to Chung Mong-joon as his “special friend ” and expressed his joy that this “Korean puller” was withdrawn from circulation by the FIFA Ethics Committee for several years in 2015 .

In 2006, Hägele became Head of International Relations at FC Bayern Munich . In 2016 he received an honorary doctorate from Hiroshima University of Economics .

Martin Hägele is married and has two children. He lives in Tutzing and has been involved in social projects since he retired.
