The Martin Ice Rise is a 10 km long and 5 km wide ice dome off the southwest coast of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It rises 16 km southwest of Kirwan Inlet in George VI Sound .
Her identity was established in January 1973 on the basis of Landsat recordings. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them in 1977 after David Martin (1914-1976), executive secretary of the Royal Society from 1947 to 1976, who held a leading position in the organization of the 1956-1958 expedition of the learned society as part of the international geophysical Year had.
