Martin Kaufhold (born August 19, 1963 in Münster ) is a German historian .

Martin Kaufhold passed his Abitur in Münster in 1982. From 1983 to 1989 he studied history and German at the University of Heidelberg . There he received his doctorate in 1993 with Jürgen Miethke with the thesis Gladius Spiritualis. The papal interdict over Germany in the reign of Ludwig of Bavaria (1324–1347) . From 1990 to 1995 he was a research assistant in Heidelberg at Jürgen Miethke's chair. He then worked there from 1995 to 2000 as a research assistant. In 2000 his habilitation took place with the thesis German Interregnum and European Politics. Conflict resolution and decision-making structures in the transition from Friedrich II to Rudolf von Habsburg (approx. 1230–1280) . From 2000 to 2003 he worked as a senior assistant in Heidelberg. Kaufhold has been a full professor of medieval history at the University of Augsburg since 2003 and has been a member of the Swabian Research Association since 2010 .

In his dissertation he would like to clarify the question "to what extent the interdict had an impact on people's lives, shaped their experiences and thus also contributed to a growing constitutional awareness". In a comparative study of the institutional change in the empire, in England and at the curia in the late Middle Ages , Kaufhold investigates the question, “How long it could take for the positions of rival actors in the conflict over the correct order to be recognized Rules of a common constitution ”.
