Martin Keane

Martin Luther Keane (born July 12, 1969 in Kingston ) is a retired Canadian basketball player of Jamaican descent.

Life

Keane was born in Jamaica and grew up in Canada. There he first played ice hockey and then basketball. The 2.06 meter indoor player was a member of the Northeast Community College (1988 to 1990), then the University of Oklahoma (1990/91) and finally the University of Washington (1992/93) in the United States .

He began his career as a professional basketball player in Spain, where he played in 1994/95 for Ernesto Electrodomésticos Alicante in the EBA league. In 1995/96 he was also under contract in the Spanish EBA at CB Tenerife Canarias. Keane succeeded in the 1996/97 season in Spain's top division ACB , where the Canadian was in the service of Pamesa Valencia and scored an average of 11.1 points and 6.8 in 13 missions over the course of an injury-ridden 1996/97 season Rebounds per encounter.

In the 1997/98 season, Keane posted good values ​​at the Spanish second division club Melilla with 15 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. In the 1998/99 season he was initially in the service of the Spanish second division team Ourense, then moved to the US League Continental Basketball Association (CBA) for the Quad City Thunder team and then to Estudiantes Olavarría in Argentina . In the South American country he played from February 1999 until the end of the 1998/99 season.

Keane accepted an offer from Japan  (Hitachi Helios), played there first during the 1999/2000 season, in April 2000 he went to Benfica Lisbon in Portugal . In the 2000/01 season he was first for the Argentine team Gimnasia y Esgrima Comodoro Rivadavia on the field, then from December 2000 in Germany for the Bundesliga club Avitos Giessen . In 13 games for Mittelhessen, the Canadian scored an average of 14.8 points and 9.2 rebounds. Keane reached his Bundesliga high at the end of March 2001 in the game against BCJ Hamburg when he posted 23 points.

The 2001/02 game year began for Keane with an engagement at Regatas San Nicolás in Argentina, in April 2002 he joined Grupo AZ Ferrol in Spain, where he stayed in the 2002/03 season. He spent two more years in Spain, 2003/04 with CD Atapuerca and 2004/05 with Pamesa Castellon. At the end of his career he was in Uruguay in the service of the Salto Uruguay team.

After his playing career, he worked for basketball academies and a business magazine, among other things, and settled with his family in China  .

National team

In 1990, 1994 and 1998 he took part in world championships with Canada. With the student national team, Keane won the silver medal at the Summer Universiade in 1991 .
