Martin Kreuzer (born July 15, 1962 in Ihrlerstein ) is a German mathematician and grandmaster in correspondence chess .
Kreuzer studied mathematics at the University of Regensburg with a diploma in 1986 and a doctorate in 1989 under Ernst Kunz ( vector bundle and the Cayley-Bacharach theorem ). As a post-doctoral student he was at Queen's University in Kingston (Ontario) with Anthony Geramita. Then he was back in Regensburg, where he completed his habilitation in 1997. From 2000 to 2001 he was a deputy professor for algebraic geometry in Bayreuth and from 2000 to 2007 for algebra at the Technical University of Dortmund. Since 2007 he has been Professor of Symbolic Computation at the University of Passau .
He deals with computer algebra (especially algorithms in commutative algebra), algebraic geometry and applications such as in cryptography and in oil exploration and modeling of deposits.
He has been a FIDE master since 1993 and became the international grandmaster in correspondence chess in 1994. He was a member of the German team that won the 12th and 13th Correspondence Chess Olympiad.
His rating in correspondence chess is 2612 (as of February 1, 2019).
