Martin Luckner

Oscar Martin Luckner , called Martin Luckner, (born July 25, 1935 in Plauen ; † May 20, 2004 ) was a German biochemist and pharmacist.

Life

Luckner studied pharmacy from 1954 at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , graduating in 1958, received his doctorate there in 1962 under Kurt Mothes and completed his habilitation in Halle in 1966. In 1970 he became professor for pharmaceutical biology in Halle. From 1991 to 1996 he was Vice Rector of the University of Halle.

He dealt with the biochemistry of alkaloids and cardiac glycosides and the regulation of the secondary metabolism of plants (cell cultures of Digitalis lanata ) and fungi ( Penicillium cyclopium ). He was the spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center SFB 363 Molecular Cell Biology of Plant Systems .

He continued his scientific work after his retirement. After 2000, the focus of his activity was the Biozentrum in Halle and the company BioService Halle GmbH, now BioSolution Halle GmbH, which he founded. In 2005 the Luckner family founded the Martin Luckner Foundation for the promotion of pharmaceutical, biotechnological and biological sciences in Halle in his memory.

He was a member of the Leopoldina . He died on May 20, 2004.
